Creating the short animation
Above is a short animation film, that our group created. The group consisted of 3 people and the filming along with the created setting, took 2 hours to finish. It was the first animation film that we had created therfore there were noticable issues within the film, ie we had accidentally taken an image too quick which included a hand. The animation had some sort of story, but when creating it we didnt really have a story in mind as we were just getting to grips with animation and filming. The missing story won't have any negative impact on the film, due to the fact that the film is so short, there isnt really any time to narrate a story, which leads us to having just an action animation. All the lads in our group are familiar with video games such as Grand Theft Auto, or The Getaway, games in which the player can run over someone without any consequences. We decided to incorporate this into our animation, due to time constraints and limited resources, we thought that this idea would be creatable.
The Setting
The setting to the animation was made from carboard, we had glued an A3 sheet of green paper to the carboard, to give it a landscape effect when the car was moving. We had added the buildings to the setting, due to it being more appealing for the audience to watch, and because it was our first use of animation we wasnt really taking it too seriously, as we were just getting used to using it.
Camera Angles
We used a long shot, to show the car travelling. We thought this camera angles would be more appropriate to use because it would allow the viewer to see the setting completely. Also it allows the viewer to think that the car is travelling at a further distance. When we were filming the 'hit and run' scene we decided to use an over the shoulder shot because it would allow the viewer to see the driver, and the victim simultaniously.
Towards the end of the film we panned the camera slightly as we wanted to create an effect that would see the car driving directly into the camera, showing how out of control the driver is.Mise en Scene
Due to limited resources and the fact that the animation had to be created within our media lessons, the mise en scene isnt exactly accurate, with the green background and the buldings contasting against each other. As said earlier this was our first time using animation and we weren't being completely serious with it as we were just gaining some expereience. We tried creating roads out of lego, but we didnt have enough yellow lego pieces, so we decided to go for a plain grey, as it was more practical and efficient at the time. The blood of the victim was made with red clay, we had then placed it on the front of the car after the incident, to make it more realistic, and more importantly so that the viewer can clearly see what has happened.
Sound/Music
There is no diagetic sound used within this short animation. We decided to use the GTA: San Andreas theme soundtrack, it being played over the footage of the animation. If we were to have more time creating this animation, we would have introduced diagetic sounds, such as the car speeding, but we had to move on further into developing our assessed short films.
Edits
Edits are used consistently throughout the short film as it was an animation. The edits take place between every second of captured images, we had to move and delete certain photos taken as they didn't fit in with the rest of the film. For example we had taken a photo which had accidentally included a hand within the image. Therefore we had to cut this image from our animation and redo it. We also had to use a video converter, to transfer a video from youtube into our animation. We imported a sound file into our animation, after making it shorter, from 3:05 to 55 Seconds.
